Itinerary: 3-day desert tour from Marrakech

Day 1:Marrakech - High Atlas - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Dades Valley

The 3-day Morocco desert tour begins with pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech at 8:00 am. We set off towards the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi N’Tichka pass. Along the way, we’ll stop to admire and photograph the Berber villages that blend into the landscape.

Our first major stop is the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. This historic site has been the backdrop for famous films such as Gladiator, Asterix & Obelix and The Mummy, as well as the TV series Game of Thrones. After exploring the ksar, we head towards Ouarzazate, known as “The Gateway to the Desert”. Here we’ll visit the Kasbah of Taourirt, one of Morocco’s most spectacular ksars.

Afterwards, we’ll continue towards the Valley of Roses, crossing the great Skoura palm grove. This valley is famous for its more than 700,000 palm trees and the numerous surrounding ksars, and hosts the Rose Festival every May. We conclude the day with transfer to the Dades Valley, where we’ll spend the night.

Day 2: Dades Valley - Todra Gorge - Merzouga - Camel Trekking and Overnight in Berber Camp

After breakfast, we’ll set off to admire one of the most beautiful views of the Dades Valley from a strategic viewpoint. From there, we’ll travel along a paved road that will take us from the Todra Gorge all the way to the desert.

After a few stops along the way, we’ll reach the spectacular dunes of Merzouga. Here, a one-hour camel excursion awaits us to our nomadic camp located amid the sea of dunes (Erg Chebbi). Before dinner, we’ll watch the sunset from the top of a dune and spend the night in a tent beneath a starry sky.

    Merzouga Dunes - Draa Valley - Anti-Atlas Mountains - Ouarzazate - Marrakech

On the third day, we start early to admire the desert sunrise, an unmissable experience from the top of a dune near the camp. After breakfast, we’ll ride back to Merzouga by camel, where a delicious breakfast awaits us. Resuming our journey, we’ll cross the pre-desert area and encounter the acacia, typical of this landscape. On the way to the Draa Valley, we’ll make a few stops to enjoy panoramic views of the river that gives the valley its name, the longest in Morocco.

We’ll continue towards Ouarzazate, crossing the Anti-Atlas. We’ll have free time for lunch in the city, and in the afternoon we’ll resume our journey towards Marrakech, arriving around 8:00 pm. Transfer to your hotel and end of our services.
